Former Gogglebox star Amy Tapper has proudly showcased the remarkable results of her eight stone weight loss while enjoying a vibrant city break with close friends in Amsterdam. The 26-year-old television personality, who first rose to fame on the popular Channel 4 show at just 13 years old, has undergone a stunning transformation, shrinking from a size 26 to a size 18 through a dedicated regimen of prescription medication and consistent physical exercise.
A Glamorous Transformation on Display
Taking to her Instagram account, Amy shared a series of sunny, glamorous photographs from a picturesque canal boat ride in the Dutch capital. In the captivating snaps, she beamed with confidence, highlighting her impressive physical change. She captioned the post with a reflective message: 'Sometimes all you need is 11 hours in Amsterdam with your bestie and suddenly everything feels water under the bridge.'
The Journey to Weight Loss
Amy recently disclosed that doctors prescribed her the weight loss injection, specifically Mounjaro, at a critical juncture when she was seriously contemplating gastric bypass surgery. She has been administering a weekly 15mg dose since February, gradually increasing from an initial 2.5mg. At the peak of her weight loss journey, Amy shed an astonishing 5lbs within just one week of starting the medication, and six months later, she had lost an incredible 4 stone.
Despite her tremendous success, the substantial weight loss has inevitably resulted in loose skin, a common issue for individuals who lose significant amounts of weight. Amy has openly acknowledged that she will require surgical procedures to correct this. Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail, she explained: 'Unfortunately and inevitably, when you've lost as much weight as eight stone, and there's gonna be more, there's a lot of skin that is just not gonna disappear with exercise. It's not possible, you know? It's stones and stones of fat and it's now just skin. My arms and my tummy are definitely gonna need surgery at some point, but my legs are actually OK.' She humorously added: 'These little side bad boys are really toning up.'
Combating Criticism and Trolls
While the TV star has faced accusations from online trolls of 'cheating' with her weight loss due to her use of medication, she firmly insists that she has maintained a rigorous and consistent workout routine alongside the treatment. Amy has been working with the same personal trainer for five years, emphasizing that exercise is crucial for her mental wellbeing. She stated: 'I love going to the gym anyway, just mentally, it makes the biggest difference to my week, and hand-in-hand with Mounjaro. I'm still eating less and moving more, but I'm doing it hand-in-hand with the weight loss medication and it's working as the most perfect pair.'
The scrutiny and trolling have taken a significant toll on Amy's mental health. During an emotional appearance on Good Morning Britain last month, she revealed: 'I do think of myself as strong minded and whatever they say to me I can say a lot worse about myself. But of course it affects you. No one is super human and I can be strong and confident, but when I’ve put all this work in, I do just kind of have to laugh about it. The online trolls come in and it sort of affects your peacefulness in your head.'
Reclaiming the Narrative
Amy has partnered with the online pharmacy Chemist4U to reclaim the phrase 'eat less, move more' as part of a major anti-bullying campaign, which is backed by the National Bullying Helpline. New research revealed that 7 in 10 people using weight loss medications feel judged for their treatments. DJ Fat Tony has recorded a new house track for the campaign, aptly titled 'Already Doing It,' and appears alongside Amy in the accompanying music video.
Throughout her journey, Amy has shared her progress online with fans, many of whom have hailed her as an 'inspiration.' She urged others not to be overly influenced by negative opinions, concluding: 'This eat less move more, it’s put there as some sort of an insult. But if you’re doing that with the weight loss medication side by side, it’s the most perfect pair so I don’t know why it’s bothering anyone. I think you’re doomed if you do and doomed if you don’t so why not just do it?'
