An American couple's review of their time in Liverpool has left people in stitches. The review featured in the latest episode of BBC Radio 4 panel show, One Person Found This Helpful.
The programme is hosted by Frank Skinner and sees the comedian dissect a number of genuine reviews left online. The legendary comedian was joined by Rajiv Karia, Scott Bennett, Bella Hull and Laura Smyth on the latest episode of the show. A clip has gone viral on social media as Frank reads out a review left by a couple when they visited Liverpool.
Introducing the review, the comedian jokes: "I don't know about you but I'm already nervous." In the clip, which is available on the Radio 4 Instagram, Frank reads: "My wife and I visited Liverpool for our 30th wedding anniversary from Texas. Our evening was ruined when a man dressed as an adult baby called my wife a mad Yank s**t because she'd never heard of a band called Steps."
Frank erupted in stitches as he added: "That's what they call an immersive experience." The Scouse welcome is renowned all over the world as being friendly and people took to the comments to set the record straight on the review.
Anna said: "You know that adult baby was a visiting stag party, not a Scouser!" Nell commented: "Defo not a Scouser, be someone on a stag do." Bianca posted: "I bet the man dressed as a baby was NOT a Scouser!" Paul said: "Stag night! Liverpool people don't love Steps." Other people were in hysterics in the comments as Nicola said: "Normal people would pay serious money to have that same experience." Joshua commented: "Me and my partner's evening would have been absolutely out of this world if that happened." Rebecca said: "My evening wouldn't have been ruined. I would have laughed."
Frank spoke to the ECHO in an exclusive interview in 2024 and he explained why he always loves visiting the city. He said: "There are some places where people look like they want to have a laugh. When people describe comedy as making people laugh, sometimes the emphasis is on the 'make'. Obviously it's your responsibility to say funny things, but with Liverpool, if you'll let them, then they want to laugh."
Frank said the cultural heritage of Liverpool is also special as he's aware he's walking in the footsteps of giants whenever he's performing on a Merseyside stage. He added: "I know it's corny, but when I'm at the Empire I always imagine The Beatles or Ken Dodd on stage. You can't get around it."
However, it's not just the performance aspect that Frank loves about visiting Merseyside. The comedian heaped praise on the friendly nature of Scousers and recalled an incredible moment when he attended a Paul McCartney concert in Liverpool that blew him away. He said: "I didn't know that it was an outdoor gig. I hadn't worked that out. It was freezing and I had a short sleeve shirt with a Beatles pattern on and my partner was in a vest top. And there were a load of Scousers laughing at me for being dressed so flimsily. Then I saw these things being passed across the crowd and someone had sent us two fleeces over. I was warmed on the outside and the inside. It was stunning. I would have to say that was a beautiful moment."
