Abbey Clancy Reveals Lucky Pants Ended Peter Crouch's Goal Drought at Liverpool

Peter Crouch's wife, Abbey Clancy, has revealed that a pair of lucky pants helped end the striker's goal drought after his move to Liverpool in 2005. Crouch, who transferred from relegated Southampton, endured 24 hours of match time before scoring his first goal for the Reds.

Speaking on Amazon Prime's 'Back of the Net', hosted by Crouch, Clancy said: 'I went shopping with my mum and we found these lucky pants and we bought him them.' Crouch scored his first Liverpool goal against Wigan Athletic, finding the net after just 11 minutes, and doubled his tally later in the same match.

After the game, Crouch admitted the drought had affected him: 'I’m really pleased because I was getting a bit of stick recently. It was a great team performance and it was good to get the three points. To score was great, I'm pleased and I can move on now, hopefully. I am naturally buoyant and a happy person but at times it was getting me down but the goal has gone in and I can get on with things now.'

Clancy also revealed that Crouch became so reliant on the lucky pants that he once went to extreme measures to ensure he had them before a match. The next episode of 'Back of the Net' is available on Amazon Prime Video from October 1.
