Michelle Keegan Returns in Gritty ITV Thriller The Blame with Hollywood Co-Star
Michelle Keegan Stars in New ITV Thriller The Blame

Michelle Keegan is back in business in a gripping new ITV thriller. The Coronation Street star, 39, is making a welcome return to our screens in her first project since giving birth to her first child, Palma, last year.

Since shooting to fame on Coronation Street at age 20, Michelle seems to have found her niche in the crime genre after her sterling success in Netflix's Fool Me Once, written by Harlan Coben, which was one of the streaming platform's most watched series.

The actress will next star in thriller The Blame, which begins with the discovery of teenage figure skater Sophie Madsen’s body in a quiet seaside town. Playing DI Emma Crane, Michelle is starring alongside Hollywood actor Douglas Booth, who has a string of impressive roles on his CV, including The Sandman and Mary Shelley.

First Look at The Blame

In a first look at The Blame, coming to ITV soon, detective Emma is seen digging deeper after it emerges that Sophie's death is far from an accident, as the shocking case unravels into something far darker.

Hyping the new series ahead of its release, ITV's head of drama Polly Hill said: “The Blame is a brilliant new crime thriller full of surprising twists and a compelling investigation that also cleverly tackles police corruption, exploitation and misogyny as the thriller unravels.

“Megan [Gallagher] is such a wonderful and clever writer, and with Michelle Keegan in the lead and Nicola Shindler at the helm, this is going to be an unmissable drama and one I’m very proud to have on ITV.”

Behind the Scenes

The series is produced by Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee, who worked with Michelle on Fool Me Once. Speaking at the ITV Showcase in April, Michelle said via OK! Magazine that The Blame was her first project after welcoming her first baby with husband Mark Wright in March 2025.

She said: "Coming back to work after having a baby is quite daunting. The production were so supportive, and I was so looked after, and it was like working with family."

Last month the actress wowed fans with family snaps after she enjoyed a Disney cruise with her family. Michelle took to Instagram to upload images from their getaway as the trio could be seen looking out at sea, with little Palma looking amazed by Mickey Mouse.

Commenting on the snaps in which the back of Palma's head could be seen, her former Coronation Street co-star Brooke Vincent wrote: "I spy curls," alongside emoji faces with love heart eyes. Meanwhile, Mark's sister, Jess also responded with a love heart emoji as did other members of the Wright clan.
