A married and pregnant music teacher has been formally charged with multiple serious child sex offences, following her arrest by Western Australian police.
Details of the Allegations and Charges
Naomi Tekea Craig, aged 33, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child aged over 13 and under 16. She also faces allegations of possessing child exploitation material and engaging in persistent sexual conduct with a child under the age of 16.
Police allege the offences took place between 2024 and 2025. At the time, Craig was employed as a music teacher at the private Fredrick Irwin Anglican School in Mandurah, south of Perth. It is reported she was on maternity leave at the time of her arrest.
School Response and Community Shock
The school's principal, Tracey Gray, confirmed the arrest in a letter sent to parents. The letter stated the teacher had been "instructed not to attend the school" and assured families that the charges did not involve any current student.
"The information available to the school suggests that there is no need for any concern for any other children at the school," the letter read, emphasising that student safety remained the top priority. Craig was described by a former school friend as a "fantastic music teacher" and a "bubbly and happy person," who left many in her community stunned by the allegations.
Police Investigation and Court Proceedings
WA Police are investigating the alleged crimes, which are said to have occurred in the Mandurah area. A police spokesperson acknowledged the deep distress such reports cause the community and confirmed that specialist detectives were leading the inquiry.
Craig is scheduled to appear at the Mandurah Magistrates Court on January 27. The police reiterated their commitment to protecting children and providing support to victims involved in such cases.
Fredrick Irwin Anglican School, where the alleged offences took place, runs a compulsory music programme and charges fees in excess of $8,000 AUD per year for senior pupils.
