A 34-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son have died after getting into difficulty in the water at a west London park. The incident occurred at Elthorne Park in Ealing on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to the scene at approximately 4:30pm, alongside the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade. The pair were recovered from the water but, despite the best efforts of emergency services, were pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed the victims were a mother and son. The force said investigations have established the deaths were a tragic accident and are being treated as non-suspicious.
Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. They have requested privacy during this difficult time. The police thanked emergency crews and members of the public for their efforts in the challenging situation.
