World Cup Round-Up: Tuchel Row, Kone Injury, Brawl

The World Cup is more than a week old, and one team has already secured their place in the knockout stages, while England's preparations continue ahead of their clash with Ghana.

Mexico First Through

Mexico confirmed their place as the first team into the round of 32 after claiming their second win of the tournament. The host nation defeated South Korea 1-0 to secure their progression.

Canada's Win Marred by Kone Injury

Canada positioned themselves well to qualify after a 6-0 win over Qatar. Their match was overshadowed by the devastating injury to Ismael Kone during the match. Kone is due to undergo surgery and was taken immediately to hospital after being stretchered off the field. Jesse Marsch confirmed Assim Madibo came into the changing rooms to apologise for his foul. The incident sparked a fiery response as players and coaches clashed. The full-time whistle saw a brief brawl on the pitch and Marsch saw a frosty exchange with Qatar boss Julen Lopetegui. "I don't understand a reaction from their entire bench to try to start a fight about it being a red card when a clear foul just happened that broke a player's leg," he said.

Switzerland's Late Drama

England's Preparations

England's preparations continued with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Sporting KC. Ivan Toney scored a hat-trick in a dominant win.

Wahi Cleared to Play

Ivory Coast striker Elye Wahi will be allowed to play for his nation against Germany on Saturday, after initially being denied entry. Canadian authorities have confirmed the forward can play, despite being arrested on suspicion of spot-fixing a fortnight before the World Cup got underway.

Abdukodir's Apology

Manchester City's Abdukodir delivered an apology with a gift after wiping out a camera operator in Uzbekistan's match with Colombia. The defender provided the cameraman with a signed Uzbekistan shirt.

Tuchel Anthem Row

Thomas Tuchel's complaints that he could not watch his England team sing the national anthem due to the barrage of photographers have forced FIFA into a change. Coaching staff will be permitted to move to the left or right of the dugouts for an unobstructed view. That solution, however, may not satisfy Tuchel, who is said to prefer to see the photographers moved. A positive response to moving from the dugout is not expected.

Chalobah Joins Squad

The German coach has a new squad member at his disposal after Trevoh Chalobah linked up with the Three Lions squad. The Chelsea defender was called up after Tino Livramento's injury.
