Context of Similar Crimes

This case is the latest in a series of horrific alleged gang rapes in India. In a separate incident, a 41-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by 10 men in Karnataka's Davangere region. The assault reportedly occurred in early June, and footage of the attack circulated on WhatsApp groups, according to the Times of India.

The victim in that case left home after a domestic dispute and was walking to her parents' house when two men approached her. They allegedly gave her a drugged drink, causing her to pass out. She was then taken to a farm, where the attack was filmed.

Davangere Superintendent of Police stated, 'We have secured all 10 accused in the case. Further investigation is underway,' referring to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
