A Texas man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting a man over a $40 parking scam and then resuming his dinner date as if nothing had happened, according to police.
Erick Aguirre, 29, was on a date at the Rodeo Goat burger restaurant in Houston on 11 April when he learned from an employee that he had been scammed by a fake parking attendant. Investigators say Aguirre left the restaurant, retrieved a pistol from his car, and shot 46-year-old Elliot Nix dead.
Witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot and seeing Aguirre walk back to his car nonchalantly, gun in hand. He then returned to his date, telling her 'everything was fine', before leaving shortly after as he began to look uncomfortable.
The woman, who has not been identified, was unaware of the shooting and voluntarily spoke to police after seeing surveillance photos of herself on the news. Her attorney said she was 'devastated' by Nix's death and will not be charged.
Police arrested Aguirre on 25 April in Aransas County, about 200 miles south-west of Houston. He previously faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2017. If convicted of murder, he could face life imprisonment.
