Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's latest trip to the UK has divided public opinion, with some royal fans and critics savaging the couple over what they perceive as a 'petulant game'. The visit, which saw Harry attend an Invictus Games event, was marred by controversy before it even began.
Security Dispute and Solo Arrival
Prince Harry arrived in the UK solo at the beginning of last week after failing to secure the security he had hoped for his family. Originally, he had planned to bring his wife Meghan and their two children from their home in California. It was later revealed that Meghan would follow Harry to the UK but would not make any public appearances. Indeed, royal followers saw no sign of the couple's anticipated reunion with King Charles III over the weekend.
Praise from Invictus Colleagues
Despite the drama, individuals involved with the Invictus Games have praised Harry's commitment. David Wiseman, a key figure in the organisation, told People Magazine: 'Bearing in mind how much he’s got going on in different facets of his life, he’s showing how dedicated he is to the Invictus movement. [Harry’s] committed so much of his time and energy to the Invictus Games Foundation, events and everything that’s building towards the games in 2027.' Helen Helliwell, Head of the Birmingham games, added that Harry brings a 'sparkle' and 'magic' to the organisation, and is much more than a patron.
Criticism on Social Media
However, critics of the former senior royal were more sceptical. On Reddit, several avid Royal Family followers shared their reactions. One user wrote that Harry 'showed the world (again) he was a petulant game-playing blackmailer'. Another commented: 'I am just so tired of this farce, from every party involved. It has belly flopped into the absurd, where the lunatics are running the asylum.' A third said: 'Harry is only committed to Brand Sussex. Invictus is but a vehicle to be used for Brand Sussex.'
Mixed Results for the Sussexes
Some observers believe the UK visit was not as successful as the Sussexes had hoped. One royal author described the disappointment he believes Meghan feels about not being photographed during the trip. The visit has sparked ongoing debate among royal fans and followers of the couple, with opinions remaining sharply divided.
