A violent offender assaulted his former partner after breaking into her home and tearing the front door from its hinges. Leon Kane, aged 35, arrived at the woman's residence in the early hours of August last year. Newcastle Crown Court was informed that the victim requested Kane to leave, but he refused and forcibly entered the property.
Attack Details
Prosecutor Estelle Chambers stated: "The victim told the defendant to leave her property; however, the defendant did not and forced his way into her house causing the front door to be completely removed from its hinges." After entering, Kane went upstairs to the bedroom where the victim was and began arguing, which escalated into a physical altercation. Chambers added: "The defendant pushed the victim onto the bed causing her to fall off the side." The court heard that the victim struck a radiator and a chest of drawers during the fall. The impact resulted in bruising on her neck and a large scratch down the side of her face.
Legal Proceedings
The victim called 999, and police officers arrived at the scene, locating Kane a few streets away. Kane, of Glebe Rise, Gateshead, pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The court was told that Kane has ten previous convictions, including three against the same victim. Despite the severity of the offense, Kane was sentenced to a 24-month community order.
