Morecambe Suspended from National League Amid Financial Crisis

The National League has suspended Morecambe Football Club with immediate effect due to ongoing financial concerns. The league's Compliance and Licensing Committee announced the decision on Monday, citing the club's inability to meet its financial obligations for the 2025/2026 season.

As a result, Morecambe will be removed from the National League Cup and placed under an embargo. The club will be barred from playing until a further committee meeting on August 20, which will assess whether outstanding issues have been resolved. Upcoming fixtures against Boston United, Brackley Town, Scunthorpe, Altrincham and Aldershot Town are affected.

The crisis stems from failed takeover attempts. Current owner Jason Whittingham, through Bond Group Investments, stated that a consortium led by Jonny Cato and the Panjab Warriors had shown interest, but communication has stalled. Whittingham urged the Panjab Warriors to re-engage to complete a sale.

Morecambe, relegated from League Two last season, have been up for sale for nearly three years. Players and staff received only a third of their most recent wages, and a pre-season friendly against Barrow was cancelled.
