Eric Dane's Cause of Death Confirmed as Respiratory Failure with ALS

The official cause of death for actor Eric Dane has been confirmed as respiratory failure, with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) as a contributing factor, according to his death certificate obtained by People magazine.

Dane, best known for his roles in Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria, died on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS. His family released a statement describing his final days, surrounded by close friends, his wife, and his two daughters, Billie and Georgia.

“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight,” the family said. “He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always.”

Dane publicly announced his diagnosis in April last year, stating he was able to continue working. He appeared in a guest role on Brilliant Minds playing a patient with ALS, and spoke about his condition on Good Morning America, saying, “I don’t think this is the end of my story. I don’t feel like this is the end of me.”

His breakout role came as Dr. Mark ‘McSteamy’ Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy from 2006 to 2012. He also appeared in films such as X-Men: The Last Stand, Marley & Me, Burlesque, and Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
