A Scottish fugitive who fled justice in Britain has been convicted of raping a fellow British tourist during a holiday in Spain, bringing to a close an international manhunt that spanned multiple countries.
James Clacher, originally from West Dunbartonshire, was sentenced to eight years behind bars by a Spanish court after attacking the woman in a Costa del Sol apartment. The 46-year-old had been wanted by UK authorities after failing to appear for sentencing on separate sex offence charges back in Scotland.

Clacher's descent into international criminality began when he absconded from Scottish justice. Having been convicted of sex offences in his home country, he chose to flee rather than face the consequences, sparking a cross-border search operation.
