A young man tragically lost his life after slipping and falling from the summit of a 150-foot telecommunications mast merely hours before he was due to celebrate his 21st birthday. Oskar Bialon, aged 20, is believed to have ascended to the peak of the structure, locally referred to as 'Newton Tower', before losing his footing in adverse wet weather conditions.
The incident occurred on May 10 at the tower situated on Black Dyke in Newton-In-The-Isle, near Wisbech. Bialon was accompanied by two friends at the time, with whom he was reportedly discussing plans for his upcoming milestone birthday. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene, but the Polish national was pronounced dead at approximately 11pm.
It is understood that the tower is a frequented spot among local youngsters, with numerous individuals claiming to have climbed it in the past. Since the tragedy, an outpouring of tributes from grieving loved ones has emerged, with many vowing to ensure his memory endures.
His partner, Ruby Ashton, expressed her devastation to the EDP, stating: 'We had been dating for a year and had our entire future ahead of us. He made me laugh every single day and made me feel that my life was truly worth living. He was happiest when surrounded by his friends and family, and he will always and forever be remembered by us. I love you, Oskar/Bandz, forever in my heart, never forgotten.'
Friends Leo and Bill described Bialon as someone who was 'always there for people when they needed him, and he will be forever missed and held in their hearts'. Another friend, JK, who grew up with Bialon, remarked that he possessed 'the most potential to become something great'.
A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by friend Lucas Harvey to raise funds for providing Bialon with 'the best send-off possible'. The fundraiser has already garnered over £800. The page reads: 'Hello, my name is Lucas. I am raising money for my dear friend Oskar, who tragically passed away aged just 21 after falling from the Newton Tower here in our hometown — a loss that has shaken everyone who knew and loved him. Oskar had no family nearby, only his friends and those who cared for him. We are heartbroken and still coming to terms with losing someone so young and full of life. We started this fundraiser to give him the dignified send-off he deserves. We aim to cover costs to bring him home to his family, or arrange everything here if his mother prefers. She only moved here recently, has very little support and no means to cover this, so we want to step up and make sure he is honoured properly. Every donation, no matter how small, helps us reach our goal and lifts a huge weight from his mother's shoulders at this impossible time. To everyone who has already helped or reached out: thank you. He was lucky to have people like you in his life. Rest in peace, Oskar – forever 21, forever loved, never forgotten.'
