Gogglebox left viewers in tears after the show paid tribute to late star Ken Harwood on Friday, following his tragic death at the age of 77. The much-loved pensioner sadly passed away last week after a short illness.
Tribute at the End of the Episode
At the conclusion of the latest episode, a picture of Ken and his wife Anne, who appeared together on the show from 2000 to 2002, was displayed. The tribute read: 'In loving memory of Ken Harwood 1948-2026'. Emotional fans were quick to share their condolences on Instagram. One wrote: 'Oh that’s very sad news. Thoughts go out to Anne and the rest of the family.' Another commented: 'Awe so sad, lovely chap.' A third added: 'What a lovely gentleman, may he rest in peace.' Another fan said: 'Lovely gent loved them both when they joined the cast. RIP. Thinking of Anne and the family at this hard time.'
Heartbreaking Statement from Production Company
Earlier in the day, Gogglebox production company Studio Lambert confirmed the tragic news in a heartfelt statement. It read: 'Ken will be dearly missed by his wife Anne, sons Simon and Ross, daughter-in-law Elle, grandchildren Freya and Tristram, and all who knew him. There will be a tribute to Ken at the end of Channel 4's episode on Gogglebox tonight.' Ken, a former postmaster, appeared on the Channel 4 show for five series alongside his beloved wife Anne, to whom he was married for 55 years. They were loved by fans on the programme from series 15 to 19, between 2020 and 2022.
Ken's Life and Legacy
According to The Sun, Ken, from County Durham, passed away surrounded by his family last week. After retiring as a postmaster after 30 years, he went on to serve as a local councillor until 2013. Ken melted the nation's hearts when he presented his wife with a large bouquet of flowers during their debut appearance on Gogglebox. It featured 50 roses – one for every year they had been married. Anne quipped: 'You’ve put me to shame now with a card and roses, and I got you nothing.' Ken replied: 'But you have me and that’s all you need.'
