President Donald Trump has unveiled a new disparaging nickname for the Democratic Party. During an hour-long interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, conducted in Beijing after his historic meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, Trump introduced the term “Dumocrats.”
Trump Explains the Origin of 'Dumocrats'
“I came up with a new name. I don't know if I should,” the president said during the rambling interview. “Dumocrats,” he proclaimed with a flourish, explaining that the name was because “they’re dumb.”
“I got rid of the B. So, you’re only changing one letter. E goes and the U comes,” Trump told Hannity. He said the idea came while talking to Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, whom he described as a “very low IQ individual.”
“So he's a dumb guy, he's a Democrat, and I said, ‘Oh, what a great name for this!’” Trump added.
Trump's Ongoing Feud with Jeffries
Trump’s ire towards Jeffries is well-documented. In a blistering social media post last week, the president blamed Jeffries for an alleged assassination attempt against him at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last month and demanded criminal charges. Writing on Truth Social, Trump called Jeffries a “lunatic” and “Low IQ,” claiming he “should be charged with INCITING VIOLENCE” and that “Radical Left Democrats actually want to Destroy our Country.”
His comments accompanied a graphic showing Jeffries speaking at an April press conference where he called for “maximum warfare” regarding Democratic-led states’ efforts to counter GOP redistricting, alongside a still image from security camera footage of the attempted shooting at the Washington Hilton.
Interview Focuses on China Meeting
Elsewhere in the interview, which was Trump’s first on-camera sit-down since meeting Xi, the president offered few concrete details on the bilateral talks. Instead, he discussed the possible sale of Boeing airplanes and soybeans to China and complimented his own bombing campaign in Iran. However, he hailed the meeting as “very historic.”
“It's the two great countries, I call it the G2,” Trump said as he wrapped up the interview. “They have G7, they have the G8. This is the G2 and I think it'll go down as a very important moment in history, and maybe more than anything else, a great moment of respect.”
