Son Arrested for Allegedly Burning Father Alive in Sydney

A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after his father was found dead with severe burns outside a home in Sydney's Glenmore Park. The victim, described in local media as being in his 60s, was discovered by emergency services who responded to a call at around 12:50am on Thursday, 16 July.

Distressing Scene for First Responders

Firefighters who attended the scene were reportedly distressed by the grim discovery. The alleged killer was taken to hospital following his arrest, where he was treated for minor injuries to his hands and feet. A police spokesperson told ABC News that the suspect was 'well known' to authorities, but there was no history of domestic violence between him and his father, and the pair did not live together.

Investigation Underway

Nepean Police Area Commander Superintendent Trent King said: 'There is no history of domestic violence between the two parties.' He added that the scene was 'really distressing for our first responders, and not a normal scene for anybody to be confronted with; particularly the extent of the injuries to our victim.' Police believe an altercation occurred after a break-in at the premises, and an accelerant may have been used to fuel the blaze.

The suspect was arrested while sitting inside a car. It is unclear whether he remains in hospital or in custody. Authorities are appealing for anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward. King said: 'We have a significant amount of resources in the field, canvassing of the area to try and understand further information.'
