Northumbria Police have launched an investigation after a man was found stabbed in Newcastle city centre. Officers believe the victim, in his 20s, was attacked during a robbery on Blackett Street in the early hours of Wednesday.
Incident Details
Police received a report at approximately 12:10 AM on 15 July 2026 of an injured man in the Morden Street car park area. Emergency services attended and found the victim with injuries consistent with a bladed article. He was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening and has since been discharged.
Police Investigation
Through initial enquiries, officers established that the victim was likely attacked in a robbery on Blackett Street shortly before being found on Morden Street. Police believe the victim and his attacker were known to one another. Detective Inspector David Johnson said: “We are treating this incident very seriously and are carrying out a number of enquiries to establish the full circumstances. We believe the victim and suspect were known to each other, and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.”

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At about 12.10am yesterday we received a report of a man injured in the Morden Street area of Newcastle city centre. Emergency services attended where it was found he had sustained injuries consistent with having been caused by a bladed article. Through our enquiries we believe he was attacked in a robbery in the Blackett Street area a short time earlier. The man, aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening. He has since been discharged from hospital. Whilst enquiries are at an early stage, it is believed that those involved were known to one another. Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with information is asked to get in touch.”
