A 31-year-old man has been banned from entering a Greater Manchester hospital until June 2029 after he threatened to set it on fire and subjected staff to serious abuse. Oldham Council secured a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) against Andrew Stonier following a series of incidents at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
Details of the ban
The CBO prohibits Stonier from entering the Royal Oldham Hospital except for pre-arranged appointments or genuine emergency medical treatment. He must leave 30 minutes before and after any appointment. Breaching the order could result in arrest and further criminal action.
Oldham Council said Stonier's behaviour caused significant disruption, with staff spending hours dealing with him, diverting valuable time and resources. The order specifically bans him from entering clinical areas, wards, departments, A&E, or outpatient facilities.
Council statement
An Oldham Council spokesperson said: "This individual's behaviour towards dedicated NHS staff was completely unacceptable. No one should be subjected to threatening, abusive or intimidating behaviour while carrying out their job, particularly those working tirelessly to provide care to patients."
The spokesperson added: "These incidents placed an unnecessary burden on hospital staff and valuable NHS time and resources were spent dealing with his vile and threatening behaviour. We took robust action to secure this Criminal Behaviour Order, which sends a clear message that behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated."
