Police have launched an urgent appeal for information after a woman in her 20s was allegedly sexually assaulted near a service station in Leicester.
The incident occurred on Baines Lane, an access road off the A47 Hinckley Road, close to the southbound M1 services in Leicester Forest East, at approximately 6:45pm on Saturday, April 25.
The victim was walking along Baines Lane towards Hinckley Road when she was grabbed from behind by a man. He pulled her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. When she began shouting for help, the suspect fled towards the southbound services.
Officers have been conducting further enquiries in Baines Lane today to identify the perpetrator. Specially trained officers are providing support to the victim.
The suspect is described as white, in his 50s, of slim build, with grey hair and a grey beard. He was wearing a black and white short-sleeved top. Police are appealing for anyone who saw a man matching this description to come forward.
Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall said: "Although Baines Lane is an access road, we know it is used by people to get onto the M1 southbound. I appeal for anyone with dashcam footage who was at the services between 5pm and 7pm to get in touch."
"Any information you can provide, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, could help," she added.
