Woman Arrested Following Deliberate Federal Building Smash

A 55-year-old woman is behind bars after authorities say she intentionally crashed her vehicle into a federal courthouse in South Florida, causing an estimated $200,000 in damage.

The incident occurred at the Paul G. Rogers Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in West Palm Beach late on Wednesday evening. Police state the woman drove her car through the front entrance of the building around 11 p.m., well after regular operating hours.

Extensive Damage and Swift Arrest

The deliberate act resulted in significant destruction to the property. The building's front doors, security equipment, and interior furnishings were all damaged in the crash. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the building was largely unoccupied at the time.

Following the collision, the suspect fled the scene but was apprehended by police a short time later. She now faces a serious charge of felony criminal mischief and was being held on a $5,000 bail. Initial jail records did not list an attorney representing her.

Police Condemn 'Act of Violence'

West Palm Beach Police Chief Tony Araujo issued a firm statement in response to the event, underscoring the gravity with which such incidents are viewed. "We take incidents of this nature very seriously," Chief Araujo said. "Acts of violence and property destruction will not be tolerated, and those responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law."

While the woman was swiftly taken into custody, investigators have not yet publicly disclosed a potential motive for the federal courthouse crash. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event is ongoing.
