A woman in a rural area received an unexpected visitor when a fluffy, brown cat appeared at her front door, appearing hungry and crying for attention. The feline, with dense fur and striking green eyes, wore no collar, prompting the woman to search for his owner.
Searching for the Owner
The woman first checked with neighbors, assuming the cat belonged to someone nearby, given that many locals have barn cats that roam freely. However, no one claimed him. She then contacted a veterinarian, a cat rescue organization, and an animal shelter, but none had reports of a missing cat matching his description. A microchip scan revealed he had none.
In a Reddit post, she wrote: 'I did all the right things to search for his owner. I called the vet, the cat rescue, and the animal shelter. No one has reported a cat like this missing and the vet has never seen this cat. We checked for a microchip and he doesn’t have one. We asked our neighbours and he’s not anybody’s cat around here.'
A Happy Ending
Unable to locate the owner, the woman and her family decided to keep the cat and integrate him into their home. She shared photos of the feline on Reddit, asking for name suggestions. Describing his personality, she said: 'He’s a one year old male and EXTREMELY soft and sweet, loves attention, purrs super loudly and so far is very calm, content and peaceful. His personality so far is very chill. He’s just happy to get attention. Oh, and yes, he is in fact a very uncommon colour. Pretty green eyes too.'
Although she has a pet name list she has been compiling for a long time, none of her ideas seemed to fit him perfectly.
Reddit Community Suggestions
Reddit users offered numerous name ideas, many noting his distinguished, gentlemanly appearance. One user suggested: 'That face looks like it needs a “Sir” before whatever name you choose!' Another added: 'I love him! And I agree with the post who said it needs to have a Sir or ever a Lord before his name. This is the way!'
A third user referenced the wolf from the film The NeverEnding Story, proposing 'Gmork. Sir Gmork to you.' A fourth user creatively suggested: 'Sir Pumpkin. Hear me out: He has a picture in a cage with his snoot smooshed into the bars and my immediate thought was “despite all my rage I’m still just a rat in a cage”, so I thought of the song “Bullet with Butterfly Wings”. The song is by Smashing Pumpkins. Therefore, I came up with Pumpkin and saw the Sir addition. Boom. Sir Pumpkin!'
Another commenter noted: 'His chocolate colour is inspirational so something like Sir Wonka would be my train of thought.'
