Emergency services were called to Percy Park Road in Tynemouth, near Newcastle, on Monday morning after the body of a man was discovered in an alleyway. Police, paramedics, and forensics officers attended the scene, with a white sheet erected and the alley sealed off.
Northumbria Police confirmed that the body of a man was found shortly after 8:05 am. Enquiries are underway to formally identify the individual and notify their next of kin. The force stated that there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
The North East Ambulance Service dispatched a double-crewed ambulance to the scene shortly before 8 am. A staff member at the nearby Post Office reported that men working on scaffolding spotted something around 8 am and alerted the police, who quickly arrived and cordoned off the area.
Reporter Daniel Hall, at the scene, described a busy bank holiday morning in Tynemouth, with many people walking along the seafront. The cordon is on Back Prudhoe Terrace, between The Dog Hoose and Tynemouth Post Office, which is undergoing renovation work with scaffolding in place.
