Two young children have tragically died in a house fire in Wolverhampton, prompting a police investigation into the cause of the blaze.
Emergency Response
Officers were called to Mason Street at approximately 8:30 PM on Friday, alongside the West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service, West Midlands Police confirmed.
Firefighters entered the property and rescued two young children, but they were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other children and a woman had already escaped the property before emergency services arrived. They were assessed by ambulance staff but did not require hospital treatment.
Scene Investigation
Police have cordoned off the extensively damaged end-of-terrace house while efforts are made to establish the fire's origin. On Saturday morning, forensic officers wearing protective equipment were observed entering the property. The walls appeared scorched, and two ground-floor windows were open and blackened with smoke. Photographs show a smashed window on the first floor and a mattress lying on the road alongside debris.
West Midlands Fire Service stated that crews arrived within five minutes of receiving reports. "Our thoughts are with the children's loved ones and all those impacted by this heartbreaking incident," the fire service said in a statement.
