A 19-year-old labourer has appeared in court charged with manslaughter following the death of a woman outside a bar in North Shields. Liam Moor allegedly struck Lisa Denton, 40, in a suspected one-punch attack near Charlie's Bar on Saturday, January 24, at around 10pm.
Lisa Denton, also from North Shields, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital, where she died the following morning. Moor, of Telford Street, East Howdon, but now living outside the North Tyneside area, was arrested and charged with manslaughter.
Appearing at South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, January 27, Moor wiped back tears and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, and bail address. Due to the seriousness of the charge, no plea was taken. Clare Haswell, prosecuting, stated that Moor allegedly assaulted Lisa by punching her once outside the bar.
Magistrates granted Moor conditional bail, requiring him to abide by an electronically-monitored curfew between 9pm and 7am, stay out of a specified area of North Shields, report to Bedlington Police Station weekly, and not communicate with prosecution witnesses. He is due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on February 24.
In a separate development, a woman in her 50s was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries. Detective Chief Inspector Mark Atherton urged the public to avoid speculation and respect the ongoing legal process.
