A 62-year-old British man has died while on holiday with his wife on the Greek island of Crete. The man, who has not been named, walked towards the sea but began feeling unwell and returned to his sunbed next to his wife on the beach of Stalida. As he laid down, he died.
An ambulance was called and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to local media. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death after conducting an autopsy.
This incident follows the death of a 65-year-old British woman who collapsed and died on a beach in Sicily moments after swimming in the 'cold and rough' sea. The woman was on holiday with her husband in Punta Secca when she became ill and died.
Earlier this month, a 74-year-old British woman drowned during a holiday in Crete, with her body found washed up on a beach on October 5. Rescuers performed CPR for 30 minutes, but she did not respond and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
