A 13-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving, alongside a 48-year-old man, after two pensioners were hit by a car at a caravan park in Shropshire.
Incident details
Police reported that an 81-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman sustained serious injuries when an out-of-control vehicle crashed through Mile Bank Farm in Whitchurch on Saturday morning. The man remained in a critical condition at the hospital as of Tuesday afternoon.
The vehicle involved, a Volvo XC60, smashed into several fences and a gate before striking the awning of a caravan and the two elderly individuals, according to West Mercia Police.
Arrests and investigation
The girl and the man were both arrested at the scene and have since been released on bail. Police are appealing for witnesses who were at the caravan park around the time of the incident to come forward.
PC Mark Hobden, from the force's serious collision investigation unit, stated: 'Officers are carrying out a number of enquiries to understand what happened on Saturday relating to this collision, which left two people seriously injured.'
'We know there were a number of people in and around the caravan park at the time, and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or seen the vehicle involved beforehand.'
'Even the smallest piece of information could help us build a clearer picture of the circumstances leading up to the incident.'
'If you were in the area around 10.45am on Saturday, or have any footage that may assist our enquiries, please get in touch as soon as possible.'
