Mark Hughes, the former Wales international and Premier League manager, has been left 'totally heartbroken' following the sudden and unexpected death of his son, Alex, at the age of 38.
Family Statement Confirms Tragic Loss
A statement issued by the League Managers Association on behalf of Hughes and his wife Jill reads: 'Jill and I are totally heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved son Alex. Alex was a wonderful son, brother to Curtis and Xenna, devoted husband and father to Jessica and their two beautiful children Sebastian and Leonardo.'
The statement continued: 'Alex was Player Recruitment Lead at Grimsby Town FC, and had many good friends and colleagues. He will be so deeply missed by us all. We ask for privacy during this sad time as we come to terms with our family's loss.'
Alex Hughes' Football Career
Alex Hughes, born in 1987 while his father was playing for Barcelona, had a short-lived playing career in Wales before moving into football administration. He began as a match analyst at Blackburn Rovers, then progressed to Manchester City as a scout. He subsequently held roles at Fulham, 1860 Munich, and Reading before becoming director of football at AFC Fylde. More recently, he worked at Morecambe and was Player Recruitment Lead at Grimsby Town at the time of his death.

Mark Hughes, who also managed Stoke City, Southampton, and the Wales national team, is known for his distinguished playing career with Manchester United, Barcelona, and Chelsea.
