A 16-year-old boy has been formally charged with manslaughter in connection with a devastating house fire in East London that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old schoolgirl. The teenage defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged on Tuesday with multiple serious offences. These include manslaughter, arson, and arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered. Following his charging, the boy has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear at Stratford Magistrates' Court on 24 February for his initial hearing.

Tiffany Regis, a 15-year-old schoolgirl, tragically lost her life due to smoke inhalation when flames rapidly engulfed the residential property. The London Fire Brigade responded to emergency calls at 5.24pm on that fateful April evening, with the blaze being brought under control by 6.33pm following an extensive firefighting operation.
Emergency services deployed significant resources to the scene, including six fire engines and approximately 40 firefighters from multiple stations including East Ham, Plaistow, and Barking. Firefighters discovered the fatally injured girl inside the second-floor flat, where she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire resulted in five additional casualties who sustained injuries and required hospital treatment. London Ambulance Service crews transported these individuals to medical facilities, though all were subsequently discharged following treatment.
Rokhsana Fiaz, the Labour Mayor of Newham, expressed profound sorrow following the tragedy, describing it as "a tragic moment for the community." She extended her sympathies to Tiffany's grieving parents, stating they were "going through unimaginable pain at the loss of their much-loved 15-year-old daughter who brought so much joy."
