Masked Intruders Interrupted by Ring Doorbell Alert in Early Morning Break-In Attempt

A family in West Wickham, south London, had a terrifying wake-up call last week when two masked men were caught on their Ring doorbell camera attempting to break into their home in the early hours. Devin Parmar, 42, his wife, and their two children were asleep when a notification alerted them to activity at their front door at 5:20 am on March 5.

Homeowner's Swift Response to Protect Family

Upon opening the Ring app, Mr Parmar's wife saw one of the intruders covering the camera lens. Reacting instantly, Mr Parmar raced downstairs to confront the pair, driven by a need to safeguard his household. 'I needed to protect my family,' he stated. 'My reaction was to get downstairs as quickly as I could and confront them and defend my home.'

The doorbell's chime and the activation of an upstairs light prompted the masked men to flee, but not before they had broken through the door. Shockingly, one intruder even stepped inside the property momentarily before escaping. Ring footage captured Mr Parmar emerging seconds later, appearing to wield a baseball bat as he shouted after the retreating figures.

Critical Delay in Live Feed Adds to Tension

Mr Parmar revealed that he and his wife initially believed they were viewing a live image on the app, but there was actually a 20-second delay. This meant the intruders had already departed by the time he reached the ground floor. 'I wasn't that far behind them,' he explained. 'It was only afterwards that we realised they had actually forced entry. They went as soon as they heard the Ring chime and that we were aware that they were trying to break in.'

Police Investigation and Community Impact

The homeowner immediately contacted the police, and a forensics team arrived to search for evidence. Officers expressed surprise that the break-in attempt occurred so late in the morning, suspecting the perpetrators might be inexperienced rookies, as they waited for each other before running off.

Since the incident, Mr Parmar has installed additional locks and enhanced security measures. The event has deeply unsettled him and his children, aged five and nine, who previously considered the area safe. Having lived in West Wickham for six years, he noted that burglaries are uncommon locally. 'I had felt very safe before. West Wickham has always felt like a safe place. Incidents like this are in my view isolated but we are a lot more cautious and vigilant now,' he said.

The psychological aftermath is significant: 'It makes you think twice and look over your shoulder a bit more. I am quite shocked and surprised to see this happen. The area is very community led and friendly so to experience something like this here feels like the area is being targeted.'

Ongoing Police Inquiry

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson acknowledged the community concern generated by such incidents, confirming that officers were called to an attempted burglary and the investigation remains active. No arrests have been made to date, leaving residents on edge as authorities continue their probe into this alarming home invasion.
