A motorcyclist has sustained serious injuries after colliding with a tree following a police pursuit in Blackley, north Manchester, on Monday evening (June 15). The incident occurred on Charlestown Road, where the area was cordoned off after the crash.
Details of the Incident
At approximately 8pm, a motorbike failed to stop for police, prompting a brief pursuit. The motorcyclist subsequently struck a tree. A 44-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, according to Greater Manchester Police.
A major scene was established as officers from the Serious Collision Unit conducted investigations for several hours on Monday night.
Police Statement
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police stated: "Shortly after 8pm on Monday 15 June 2026, a motorbike failed to stop for police and following a brief pursuit, the motorbike collided with a tree on Charlestown Road, Blackley. Emergency services attended and a 44-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. Enquiries into the circumstances of the collision are ongoing and road closures are currently in place."
Professional Standards Referral
As is standard procedure for incidents involving police pursuits, the matter has been referred to the force's Professional Standards department. Images from the scene showed multiple police vehicles and tape spanning both sides of the road.
