Gary Neville, the former Manchester United footballer and current football pundit, has shared his regret after being verbally abused in the street earlier this week. The incident occurred while Neville was walking through Manchester with his wife, Emma.
Confrontation with Aggressive Dog
On his Stick to Football podcast, Neville recounted that a man filmed himself swearing at Neville, repeatedly calling him derogatory names, and later posted the footage online. Neville admitted he feared the man's “very aggressive dog” might be unleashed during the confrontation. He expressed regret at not having filmed the abuser himself, noting that the presence of his wife during the incident caused particular distress.
Support from Co-Hosts
Neville's podcast co-hosts, Ian Wright and Jill Scott, condemned the behaviour as “horrible” and “out of order.” They expressed solidarity with Neville and his wife, emphasising that such conduct is unacceptable.
The incident highlights the challenges public figures face when encountering aggressive individuals in public spaces. Neville's reflection on the event underscores the importance of documenting such encounters for safety and accountability.
