Chilling Allegations Emerge in Bega Murder Case

Four people have been formally charged with the murder of 43-year-old Gordon Kessey, following a violent incident in the town of Bega, New South Wales. The accused, including a teenage girl, made their first appearance in court, where shocking new details about the alleged attack were revealed.

Details of the Alleged Attack

Emergency services were called to an East Street property in Bega at approximately 2am on October 6 after receiving a concern-for-welfare report. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mr Kessey deceased from alleged stab wounds. A second man, aged 45, was also found with stab wounds and was transported to South East Regional Hospital. He has since been treated and released.

The four individuals charged are: Kody Lloyd, 29, Dion Lloyd, 32, Benjamin Robinson, 34, and Latisha Mundy, 19. Each faces charges of murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder. Additionally, Kody Lloyd and Latisha Mundy were charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm.

During the bail hearing at the Bail Division Court, the prosecution presented a disturbing account of the events. They alleged that 19-year-old Latisha Mundy approached Mr Kessey and told him, "you're going to f***ing die" and "I'm going to kill you," before allegedly stabbing him twice in the face.

Court Proceedings and Bail Decisions

Magistrate Rosheen O’Meagher presided over the hearing, where the prosecution strongly opposed bail for all defendants, describing the incident as a "vicious and violent attack in the middle of the street." While Kody Lloyd and Benjamin Robinson did not apply for bail, Latisha Mundy did seek release.

Her lawyer, Stewart Holt, argued that her youth, Aboriginal heritage, and lack of a prior custody history made her particularly vulnerable in a prison environment. The prosecution, however, contended that Mundy was a "willing participant" in the crime. Magistrate O’Meagher ultimately refused her bail application, agreeing that the alleged crimes were too serious.

The arrests on Thursday were the culmination of a six-week investigation that involved multiple crime scenes, forensic searches, and a public tip-off that finally helped police crack the case. Officers had previously searched a Bega unit and nearby wetlands in an attempt to locate the alleged murder weapon.

Det Acting Insp Luke Walsh stated that further arrests have not been ruled out as investigations continue. He expressed gratitude for the assistance from the local Bega community during what he described as a "complex homicide investigation."

The four accused are scheduled to next appear in Batemans Bay Local Court on January 27 via video link. No pleas have been entered at this stage.
