Melanie Chisholm, known as Sporty Spice, has finally disclosed the real reason she declined to participate in the Spice Girls reunion, which has since been renamed GEM after the three remaining members. The singer cited her role as a mother to her 7-year-old daughter, Scarlet Starr, as the primary factor in her decision.
In an interview with The Sun, Mel C explained that she had to prioritise her daughter over the band. 'I had to think about myself and the most important thing in my life, which is being a mother to my little girl,' she said. 'I had to be present for her. It was a hard decision, not only letting down the girls but all the fans who want it to happen.'
The singer also expressed discomfort with the direction the reunion was taking, noting that as individuals, the members have different lives and careers. 'We always said we had to be comfortable but lots of people were getting involved and I wasn't comfortable with the direction that it was taking,' she added.
Victoria Beckham, Posh Spice, also opted out of the reunion, citing her fashion business as her main focus. Meanwhile, Geri Halliwell, now Geri Horner, recently announced she is expecting a baby, leaving fans to wonder if the band might consider adding childcare to lure Sporty back.
