Former Liverpool Winger Jordon Ibe to Stand Trial Over Alleged Assault
Former Liverpool footballer Jordon Ibe is set to face trial over the alleged assault of a woman, after pleading not guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The 30-year-old ex-winger entered his plea at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Friday, setting the stage for a legal battle that could have significant repercussions for his career and reputation.
Court Details and Bail Conditions
The alleged assault is said to have taken place in Lambeth, south London, on December 14, as heard in court proceedings. Ibe, who resides in Chislehurst, Bromley, in south-east London, was released on conditional bail following a brief 13-minute hearing. He has been ordered to next appear in court for his trial, which is scheduled for July 14 at the same magistrates' court.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Ibe was arrested at Luton Airport on January 30, with charges being filed last month. This development adds to a series of legal challenges for the footballer, who has recently faced other allegations related to prescription fraud.
Football Career and Recent Moves
Jordon Ibe made 41 appearances for Liverpool during his time at the club, which began in 2012. Over his career, he has also played for Derby County, Birmingham City, and AFC Bournemouth, where he appeared 92 times between 2016 and 2020. In recent years, his career has taken a turn, with stints in non-league football before securing a move to Lokomotiv Sofia in the Bulgarian First League in November 2025.
As a former England under-21 international, Ibe's legal troubles could impact his standing in the sport, particularly as he seeks to rebuild his career abroad. His total of 58 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions highlights his past prominence in English football.
Previous Legal Allegations
In addition to the assault charge, Ibe has been involved in other court matters. Earlier this year, it was reported that he faced allegations of attempting to obtain sleep medication using a fake prescription. Specifically, he is accused of using a bogus prescription to try to acquire the insomnia drug Zolpidem on two occasions in May 2024.
The incidents allegedly occurred at the Hornsey Road pharmacy in north London, with a suspicious pharmacy worker seizing the fake prescription during the second visit. These previous allegations add context to the current case, painting a picture of ongoing legal scrutiny for the footballer.
As the trial date approaches, the football community and legal observers will be watching closely to see how these serious allegations unfold in court.
