British holidaymakers in southern Italy were left terrified after masked gunmen stormed a restaurant, spraying bullets and killing an innocent waiter in what authorities suspect was a mafia-style attack.
Deadly Attack in Bisceglie
The incident occurred at the Spaghetteria n.1 restaurant in the coastal town of Bisceglie, where diners were enjoying a quiet evening meal. Witnesses reported that several masked individuals entered the premises and opened fire, causing panic among customers.
Angelo Pizzi, affectionately known as Lino, was shot dead while carrying out his duties. He was described by colleagues as a hardworking and beloved member of staff. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Police Investigation Underway
Local police have launched an investigation, with early reports suggesting the attack may be linked to organized crime. No arrests have been made so far. Authorities are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
British tourists present during the shooting were reportedly left in shock. One unnamed tourist described the scene as 'like something out of a movie.' The UK Foreign Office has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to those affected.
The restaurant remains closed as forensic teams scour the area for evidence. The community of Bisceglie has expressed grief over the loss of Lino, with floral tributes placed outside the eatery.
