Birmingham Woman Dragged to Floor with Hijab Ripped Off in Attempted Carjacking
Police are urgently hunting for three men after a woman was subjected to a terrifying ordeal during an attempted carjacking in Birmingham. The incident occurred on Hunton Hill, near Gravelly Hill train station, at approximately 6.30pm on Monday, March 9.
Details of the Terrifying Attack
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was approaching her car to drive to a mosque for prayers when three white men approached her. In a brutal assault, one attacker grabbed her from behind, forcibly pulled off her hijab, and pushed her to the ground. The assailants then attempted to steal her vehicle in what police have described as a carjacking attempt.
The woman's elderly father, who is in his 70s, intervened to protect his daughter. During the struggle, the attackers pushed him into a gate, leaving both victims traumatised and shocked. The woman's screams ultimately caused the primary attacker to flee, with the other two men casually walking away from the scene.
Police Investigation Underway
West Midlands Police have launched a full investigation into the incident. Officers are currently examining mobile phone footage and reviewing CCTV from the surrounding area in an effort to identify the perpetrators. No arrests have been made at this time, and inquiries are ongoing.
Inspector Hayley Thompson from Sutton and Erdington police stated, "This was a terrifying ordeal for the woman and her father, and we are working hard to identify and arrest those responsible." She confirmed that additional officers would be deployed in the area to provide reassurance and support to the community.
Victim's Emotional Response
In a social media post, the victim expressed the profound impact of the attack. She wrote, "This attack has left me and my dad feeling very traumatised and shocked." The incident has highlighted concerns about safety and religiously motivated violence in the community.
A police spokesman reiterated the severity of the crime, noting that the attackers tried to enter the woman's car but were thwarted by her father's intervention. The group subsequently left the scene on foot.
