55 Charged After Hersheypark Brawl, Families Hide Under Tables

At least 55 people, including 52 children, have been charged with criminal offenses following a massive brawl that broke out on opening day at the iconic Hersheypark in Derry Township, Pennsylvania, USA, on Friday, April 3. The violence erupted shortly before 7 p.m. near the SooperDooperLooper roller coaster, where CCTV footage allegedly shows two groups arguing before the confrontation turned physical.

Chaos Spreads Across the Park

The fighting quickly spread throughout the park, with multiple clashes reported near the SooperDooperLooper and Trailblazer rides. The disorder was so severe that it triggered an emergency stop on the Skyrush roller coaster. Terrified families were seen fleeing with children in prams, and some adults stood over their children to shield them from the violence, according to affidavits cited by PennLive.

Witnesses described people ducking under tables in the food court and slipping out through side doors as crowds of youths surged through dining areas, knocking over bystanders, including parents and children. Police officers stated in court records, “These actions caused serious inconvenience to Hersheypark staff and patrons of the park. This caused an emergency stop to the Skyrush ride.”

Details of the Charges

Of the 55 individuals charged, 52 are minors aged between 12 and 17, while three adults, aged 18 and 19, also face accusations. The adult defendants have been identified as Quaneek Williams, 18, who is charged with felony riot, simple assault, and failing to disperse. Omar Ibrahim, 19, and Jerome Ross III, 18, are both accused of theft for allegedly transferring gate wrist-stamps to others.

The remaining suspects face a range of felony and misdemeanor counts, including simple and aggravated assault, conspiracy, riot, theft, disorderly conduct, and failing to disperse. Investigators worked with the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office, school resource officers, and juvenile probation staff to identify those involved from video footage.

No Serious Injuries Reported

Despite the scale of the violence and the panic it caused, police and park officials reported no serious injuries among guests or bystanders. In response to the incident, Hersheypark has tightened security at the gates, replacing re-entry hand stamps with a photo verification system aimed at preventing gate-jumping and ticket-sharing.

The park had just welcomed visitors for its 120th season earlier that day when the trouble broke out. “Consistent with Hersheypark’s zero tolerance policy, those who do not abide by our policy will no longer be welcome on our property,” the park told CBS21.
