A 75-year-old Australian pensioner is pleading for urgent assistance after his wife allegedly squandered their entire fortune on drugs in Thailand, leaving him stranded and penniless.
The desperate man, who has not been named, claims his wife’s reckless spending on narcotics has drained their savings, forcing him to beg for help from the Australian government to return home.
According to reports, the couple had been living in Thailand when the wife’s addiction spiralled out of control, consuming their life savings and leaving the elderly man without resources to support himself or secure a flight back to Australia.
Friends and family have expressed shock at the situation, describing the pensioner as a hardworking man who had saved diligently for retirement, only to see his funds disappear due to his wife’s alleged drug abuse.
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has been approached for comment, but it remains unclear whether the government will step in to assist the stranded pensioner.
This heartbreaking case highlights the dangers of financial exploitation and addiction, particularly for vulnerable elderly expatriates living abroad.
