Australian singer Tina Arena has spoken out about the dark side of the music industry, revealing she has been 'the victim of a lot of s**t' and calling out 'predators' in the business. The 51-year-old made the comments while accepting the Excellence in Community Award at Support Act's annual flagship fundraising event in Sydney.
The 'Chains' hitmaker praised the charity organisation Support Act, which helps music professionals struggling with illness, injury or hardship. She emphasised the need to protect vulnerable members of the music community, stating: 'We have a responsibility to this community to be able to help them mentally and keep them away from predators.'
Arena, who has sold over 10 million records, was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2015 and awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in 2016. She also holds a Knighthood of the French National Order. In March, she was appointed to a $32,000-a-year taxpayer-funded role on The Australia Council for the Arts.
