Florida Mother Murdered by Husband After NFL Game Dispute, Stepdaughter Shot
Mother Killed Protecting Children in Christmas NFL Row

A Florida mother was shot and killed by her husband after a violent argument that reportedly began when she asked him to turn off an American football game, just days before Christmas.

A Mother's Final Act of Protection

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Crystal Roure died while trying to shield her three children from her husband, Jason Kenney. The dispute escalated on the 22nd of December 2025, when Crystal asked Kenney to switch off the NFL game he was watching.

As the row intensified, Crystal, fearing for her children's safety, instructed her 12-year-old son to flee to a neighbour's house and call the emergency services. As the boy ran outside, he heard the sound of gunshots.

Miraculous Survival and a Fatal Outcome

When police arrived at the family home in Polk County, they discovered a horrific scene. Crystal Roure was found dead. Her 13-year-old stepdaughter had been shot in the face but was alive. The couple's one-year-old daughter was found unharmed.

In a miraculous turn, the teenage girl survived the attack. Reports indicate the bullet struck the bridge of her nose and ricocheted through the top of her head. Sheriff Grady Judd recounted the girl's harrowing words: "She said, 'I begged him, don’t shoot me, don’t shoot me, don’t shoot me, and he shot me anyway.'"

Aftermath and a Family's Plea

Jason Kenney fled the scene to his late father's home. He later called his sister, telling her he had done "something very bad," before turning the gun on himself.

Sheriff Judd revealed that officers found a note written by Crystal to her husband during a search of their home. The mother-of-three had begged Kenney to seek help, writing: "You’re drinking, you’re using cocaine again. This is not the way the family should be. You need God."

Despite a family member stating Kenney had been abusive and had "beat on Crystal for a while," the sheriff's office confirmed there were no prior official records of domestic violence between the couple, who had been married for two years.

"He absolutely destroyed a family," Sheriff Judd stated. "When you go in there, there is a beautiful Christmas tree with lots of Christmas presents under the tree, just like the nuclear family should be ... and it ends up this way."

Crystal's three children are now in the custody of their grandparents. The family has established a GoFundMe page for support, describing the loss as "heartbreaking" and the situation as "unimaginable."
