Model and Designer Estelita Huijer Clears Final Charges, Ends 18-Month Legal Ordeal
Estelita Huijer Clears Final Criminal Charges

Fashion designer and occasional model Estelita Huijer has entered the new year with a clear legal slate, having resolved the last of a series of criminal charges just before Christmas. For the first time in nearly a year and a half, the former girlfriend of rock star Daniel Johns has no pending court appearances and is no longer under immediate threat of a prison sentence.

A Tumultuous Relationship and a String of Charges

The 34-year-old, who describes herself as Dutch-Filipino-Australian, faced a tumultuous period throughout 2025. Her legal troubles, all of which were domestic violence-related, stemmed from her complex and "on-and-off" four-year relationship with prominent Sydney restaurateur Andrew Becher. The pair split in spectacular circumstances sometime in 2024, while Huijer was pregnant with Becher's child. A court later heard the end of the relationship left her "navigating a complex and often unsafe dynamic" during her pregnancy.

Becher, the owner of popular Sydney eateries Franca, Armorica, and Pelicano, first obtained an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) against Huijer in June 2021. This order, which included a condition that she not approach him within 12 hours of consuming alcohol or drugs, was initially in place for two years. Huijer's legal challenges escalated significantly in 2024 and 2025, resulting in charges including:

  • Common assault
  • Stealing over $2,000 in cash
  • Fraud
  • Possessing a prohibited drug (cannabis)
  • Trespassing
  • Vandalism (allegedly defacing a wardrobe with a permanent marker)
  • Repeated breaches of AVOs

Key Incidents and Court Appearances

The situation came to a head with several specific incidents. On August 1, 2024, Huijer was arrested following an alleged event at Becher's Point Piper home, spending a night in custody. Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge granted her bail but issued a stern warning about further contact with Becher.

She was arrested again on September 9, 2024, after another disturbance at Becher's apartment. Huijer had called emergency services reporting a domestic violence incident and was taken to hospital with a head injury before being charged.

Further breaches occurred during her pregnancy. On December 30, 2024, she visited Becher's Wolseley Road unit around 2am to inform him she was pregnant with his child. He demanded a paternity test and called the police. When arrested later that day, police found 0.53 grams of cannabis in her possession.

Two final breaches happened in January 2025, including a missed phone call and Huijer being captured on CCTV in the lobby of Becher's building.

Legal Resolution and Sentencing

The path to resolution was protracted. Several charges were withdrawn in April last year when Becher failed to appear in court. In a hearing where Huijer arrived with the couple's 14-week-old baby, fresh evidence from Becher—including CCTV, screenshots, and a phone recording on a USB drive—complicated proceedings.

Ultimately, on November 6, with Becher again absent, Huijer pleaded guilty to three AVO breaches and drug possession, while an assault charge was withdrawn. Her sentencing was adjourned so her barrister could seek consideration under mental health provisions.

The final chapter closed on December 17. Magistrate Rodney Brender imposed a two-year community correction order for the three AVO breaches, along with $550 in fines. A separate fraud charge was dismissed, but Huijer was fined an additional $100 for drug possession and $1,000 for breaching a previous conditional release order from March 2024.

This outcome means Huijer will be brought back before the court only if she commits another offence before December 16 next year, finally drawing a line under an 18-month legal saga. Her past includes a four-year relationship with Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns, which began in 2013 after he left the band to pursue solo work.
