Scot Missing in Tokyo Detained, Foreign Office Confirms

A Scottish man who went missing in Tokyo has been located and detained in Japan, the Foreign Office has confirmed. Alistair Roberts, 37, from Glasgow, was reported missing after leaving a poker game in the notorious Kabukicho red-light district in the early hours of July 11.

Disappearance and Search

Roberts had recently returned to Tokyo to be with his fiancée. He last contacted her at 3am on July 11, after which his phone died and he could not be reached. His disappearance was described as "insanely out of character" by friends, who feared the worst.

The last confirmed sighting of Roberts was captured on a live camera stream in Kabukicho, known as the 'sleepless town', around 4:30am on July 11, leaving a poker establishment. A missing person report was filed with Tokyo police, who initially stated he was not in custody.

Extensive appeals for information were made on social media, urging expats, travellers, and locals to come forward. The FCDO continues to provide consular support to Roberts' family.
