A man and a teenage boy have been charged with attempted murder after a woman was left fighting for her life following a collision in Blyth, Northumberland.
Two women in their 30s were struck by a vehicle on Keelmans Terrace in Blyth at around 1.25am on Friday, June 12. One woman sustained serious injuries and remains in a life-threatening condition in hospital, while the other suffered minor injuries.
Corey Charters, 20, and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were charged with attempted murder on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred near the junction with Beaumont Street.
After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene and was later found burnt out in the High Pitt area of Cramlington, according to police.
Officers arrested three people during their enquiries. While Charters and the 17-year-old have been charged, a 21-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail.
Charters, of no fixed abode, also faces charges of driving without a valid licence and driving without insurance. Both he and the teenager are due to appear before North Tyneside Magistrates' Court in North Shields on Thursday morning.
Northumbria Police is continuing to appeal for information, including doorbell, CCTV, or dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Henry of the force's Major Investigation Team said: "The charges brought against these two individuals are a big step forward in our investigation, but that does not mean the enquiry is finished."
He added: "We remain interested in the movements of a dark-coloured 2007 registered Honda SUV car which is believed to have been in and around the area between 1am and 1.30am in the early hours of Friday.
"From our enquiries, it is understood that the victims of the collision on Keelmans Terrace were involved in an earlier altercation on or near Stephen Street between 1.15am and 1.20am with the occupants of the same vehicle, although no one was reported to have been injured.
"Later that same day, just after 3pm, this vehicle was found burnt out in the area of High Pitt, Cramlington. As always, we'd encourage those in the community and online not to speculate around the circumstances of the report - especially now charges are live. It's imperative we respect the upcoming legal process."
