Iain Robertson, the former River City actor, is on trial at the High Court in Glasgow, accused of raping a woman during a holiday in the Lake District. The 45-year-old faces a total of eight charges spanning from 2004 to 2020, which he denies.
Allegations of Physical Assault and Disorderly Behavior
The court heard that Robertson allegedly physically assaulted the woman on various occasions and behaved in a disorderly manner towards her. He is also charged with raping another woman between 2018 and 2019, as well as offences involving two other women.
Witness Testimony
On Wednesday, a 48-year-old woman gave evidence, recounting a holiday in the Lake District with friends. She described how Robertson reacted angrily when she played a game involving replacing film names with rude words. She said he appeared in the corridor, looking disgusted and angry, and motioned for her to leave.
She stated that they went to the bedroom, where she felt exhausted and flummoxed, while he remained angry. The woman previously described Robertson as controlling, noting that he often started arguments when she met friends or colleagues.
Alleged Rape Incident
The woman testified that later, in bed, Robertson began kissing her and trying to initiate sex. She said she said no and was upset, but he ignored her and continued. She recalled removing her pyjama bottoms and him being on top of her, pulling her arms down. She said she said she didn't want it.
The alleged rape is not part of the charges due to it allegedly taking place outside Scotland. The woman said the incident has stuck with her internally and emotionally.
Violent Incident at Home
The woman also described an incident where Robertson punched a fridge, denting it, and chased her around his Glasgow home. She said she left and locked the door behind her for safety, feeling he was rampaging and making noise.
Robertson's lawyer, Gary Allan KC, disputed the account, suggesting she initiated sex and consented. He claimed she removed her clothing and sat astride him. The woman rejected this, saying she was clear about what happened. Allan also claimed she never said no or stop, which she denied.
The trial, presided over by Lady Drummond, continues.
