Sky Sports has secured a contract extension to broadcast Formula 1 in the UK until 2034, prolonging their partnership to over two decades. The new agreement also extends Sky's rights to broadcast F1 in Italy until 2032, building on their existing coverage.
Expanded Coverage
Sky originally acquired the live broadcasting rights for every F1 Grand Prix from the BBC in 2012, and subsequently launched a dedicated F1 channel. Under the terms of the extended deal, highlights of Formula 1 races will continue to be made available on a free-to-air channel, with Channel 4 currently holding these rights.
Industry Reactions
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and Sky Group CEO Dana Strong both expressed their satisfaction with the renewed partnership, highlighting Sky's role in growing the sport through its broadcasting and content creation. Domenicali stated: "Sky has been an incredible partner in bringing the excitement of Formula 1 to millions of fans." Strong added: "We are thrilled to continue our journey with F1, delivering world-class coverage and innovation."
The deal ensures that British fans will have uninterrupted access to every race, qualifying session, and practice, alongside expert analysis and exclusive content. Sky's dedicated F1 channel will continue to provide in-depth coverage, documentaries, and behind-the-scenes features.
This extension solidifies Sky Sports as the home of Formula 1 in the UK, with a commitment to enhancing the viewing experience through technological advancements and comprehensive storytelling.
