Pret A Manger Opens First UK Drive-Thru in Warrington

Pret A Manger has reached a significant milestone with the opening of its first drive-thru restaurant in the United Kingdom. The new outlet, situated in Warrington, Cheshire, near junction 21 of the M6 motorway, officially opened its doors on Tuesday in collaboration with Motor Fuel Group. This trial format is part of the brand's broader strategy to increase its presence in transport and travel hubs across the country.

Expansion into Travel Locations

Of Pret's 500 UK shops, 220 are already located in airports, train stations, and motorway service areas. Among these, 35 are operated by Motor Fuel Group. The new drive-thru features a single lane for vehicles and indoor seating for up to 48 customers. Additionally, the site offers electric vehicle charging points and customer toilets.

Menu and Offerings

Customers can choose from Pret’s full breakfast and lunch menu, including popular snacks, coffee, and a variety of hot and cold drinks such as smoothies. The drive-thru aims to provide the same quality and convenience that Pret is known for, now accessible from the road.

Ross Warnes, Pret’s president for the UK and Ireland, commented: “Travel hubs and roadside locations present a huge growth opportunity for Pret, making the launch of our first drive-thru a natural next step in our expansion.”

Jack Tindall, head of food service operations at Motor Fuel Group, added: “As Pret’s largest UK franchise partner, opening Pret’s first ever drive-thru is a major milestone for our partnership. We’re incredibly proud to be part of launching this new format for Pret and look forward to serving the Warrington community.”

Recent Developments and Strategy

Last year, Pret launched a trial offering meal deals to boost its lunchtime trade. The chain stated that the trial aimed to “double down” on delivering strong value for customers. This move is part of Pret’s medium-term strategy to grow the brand and return to sustainable profits. The drive-thru initiative aligns with these goals by tapping into the growing demand for convenient, on-the-go dining options.
