New 807-mile train journey through Europe launches this month

A new 807-mile train journey through Europe is set to launch this month, connecting Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. Private rail firm Leo Express will begin operating the service on June 25, with ticket prices starting from €10 (£8.65). The route is set to be one of Europe's longest, with an estimated travel time of 18-and-a-half hours.

Route details

It will run once daily in both directions between the Polish city of Przemyśl and Frankfurt in Germany. Cities along the route include Kraków, Ostrava, Prague, Dresden, Leipzig and Erfurt. Leo Express CEO Peter Köhler said: "At over 1,300 kilometres (807 miles), this is one of the longest direct train services in Europe."

He added that Przemyśl's proximity to the Ukrainian border meant the train line would "remove the iron curtains between western and eastern Europe". "We are connecting important European centres and providing access to Ukraine," he said. "[And] in Germany, we are creating an alternative to existing operators."

Schedule

The service departing Poland is set to leave Przemyśl at 1:31pm and arrive in Frankfurt the following day at 7:53am. Meanwhile, the return service will depart at 8:27am for a 2:23am arrival. Przemyśl lies around six miles from the Polish-Ukrainian border and has served as a major transit hub for refugees fleeing the wartorn country since Russia's invasion in 2022.
