Investigators are sifting through wreckage after a private plane crash in Butler, Missouri, that is believed to have killed all 12 people on board. The incident occurred on Sunday morning near Butler Memorial Airport.
Crash Details
According to authorities, the aircraft had just departed from Butler Memorial Airport when it turned around for an unknown reason and crashed near Business 49 Highway. The Bates County Emergency Management spokesperson confirmed the crash happened just before 11:30 a.m.
Reports indicate that 11 of the victims were skydivers, while the 12th was the pilot. No survivors have been found. Emergency crews are searching the area to determine if any skydivers jumped before the crash.
Investigation Underway
Local reports state the investigation will last multiple days as crews work to determine the cause of the crash and clear the wreckage. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Federal Aviation Administration, and National Transportation Safety Board are on scene.
The Bates County Sheriff’s Office announced that all lanes of Business 49 Highway near the airport are closed in both directions for an undetermined amount of time. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes.
